2007 Team Schedule

The AFC South Houston Texans:

Bob McNair was determined to bring an NFL franchise back to Houston and in 2002 his Houston Texans made their debut. His quest started in 1997, but it wasn’t with the NFL, it was NHL, The National Hockey League. After being turned down for a hockey franchise, McNair moved on to football, where his efforts payed off. The NFL Stadium Committee met in Houston in June of 1998 to discuss stadium plans. The committee voted to give Los Angelas six months to come up with a suitable plan for ownership and stadium design. If Los Angeles failed to comply then the committee would recommend Houston receive the 32nd NFL franchise. After it became clear that Los Angeles was out, McNair began to prepare himself for the owners meeting in Atlanta. On October 6th, 1999 the meeting was held and the vote was cast to all the NFL owners. With a solid response of 29-0 McNair was awarded the franchise for a record setting $700 million. March 2nd, 2000 the franchise was narrowed down to 5 possibilities for the teams name. In April those 5 names were cut down to 3, the Apollos, the Stallions, and the Texans. During a rally in downtown Houston on September 6th, McNair unveiled the name, logo and colors for the Houston Texans. Dom Capers was named as the teams first head coach in January of 2001. In the Texans first game they played the Dallas Cowboys at Reliant Stadium and won, becoming the first expansion team to win their opening game since 1961 when the Vikings triumphed over the Chicago Bears.

The Texans home, Reliant Stadium, began it’s construction on March 9th, 2000. The stadium has 44,000 sidline seats, 8,200 club seats, and 187 suites. The stadiums retractable roof is made of a translucent Teflon coated fiberglass fabric and it takes only 10 minutes to fully open and close. The natural grass playing surface is grown on 8 foot trays before being transported to the playing field. Reliant Stadium also boasts two of the largest scoreboards in the NFL.
