The AFC North Cleveland Browns:

Arthur B. McBride was granted a football franchise in the All American Football Conference in 1944. The Cleveland Browns dominated the AAFC for four years before it disbanded in 1949. Many cited that it was the browns dominance in the and lack of competition that was a factor in the AAFC’s folding. The NFL acquired the Browns along with the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Colts when the AAFC folded. The team stunned the NFL world when they beat the NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener, proving that they were indeed for real. The Browns went on to hold the NFL Eastern Conference title for six consecutive seasons from 1950 to 1955. They further established their dominance by taking the NFL titles in 1950, 1954, and 1955. In 1957 The Browns welcomed Jim Brown to their roster. He was a key player for the Browns and his nine season career saw him have a lifetime record for yards rushed with 12,312 yards total. After Paul Brown retired as head coach in 1962 Blanton Collier took over and brought the Browns to their final NFL title in 1964 when they trounced over the Baltimore Colts winning 27-0. The franchise was bought for $4million in 1961 by Arthur B. Modell. He shocked the football world when he decided to move his Cleveland Browns to Baltimore in 1995. Distraught Browns fans and Cleveland’s City officials devised a plan to thwart the planned move. The NFL, sensing how important the Browns were to Cleveland and its history, offered up a resolution that would have a new stadium built and a promise of a pro football return to the city by 1999. The Browns returned to NFL action in 1999 with new owner Al Lerner.

The Cleveland Municipal Stadium that the browns shared with the Major League Baseballs Cleveland Indians was torn down in the late 1990’s to make way for the Brows brand new state of the art facility. Construction on the $290 million Cleveland Browns Stadium started on May 15th, 1997. Both sides of the field have a 3 tier seating arrangement. The stadium also has an area nicknamed the “Dog Pound”, 10,000 bleacher seats located at the east end of the stadium. And there is yet more seating at each end of the field behind the end zones bringing the total seating capacity to 73,200. The Browns play on a natural grass playing field and there are two video scoreboards at either end of the stadium beyond the end zones. Fans have a incredible view of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie from inside the stadium.
